Even when I taught in the public schools (before baby) I admired homeschooling families.

(visiting from Wednesday's walk)Mandy Janehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08791520970482661902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813401571399214066.post-2572471254166405892011-01-06T21:34:17.506-05:002011-01-06T21:34:17.506-05:00I love your post! there are good memories to be ma...I love your post! there are good memories to be made from both ways of schooling. :) I am excited about the good memories my girls are making at home for sure!! thanks for linking your school memories up with wed walk!Jenileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10904251437303606870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813401571399214066.post-11092459474869825132011-01-06T01:18:08.979-05:002011-01-06T01:18:08.979-05:00Just like our warm fuzzy memories of school, our k...Just like our warm fuzzy memories of school, our kids will have their own to look back on, too, of times spent "in school"...they'll just be different warm fuzzies. Right now, one of my boys' favorite times of the day is taking a few minutes break from school work and helping me make (or fluff) my bed each morning. Call it AM recess, maybe...we do get a work out having a pillow fight and fluffing the sheets and pillows together. :)
Stopping by from Wednesday's Walk.Janet Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08489759859200322292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813401571399214066.post-1759346279250461922011-01-05T15:41:18.321-05:002011-01-05T15:41:18.321-05:00What kids "miss" in public school is a w...What kids "miss" in public school is a way of life that doesn't exist in the real world. People deeming themselves popular, people being labelled and isolated, finding your value based on the opinions of others, feeling the need to keep up with the materialistic tenancies of your classmates, etc.

Granted, making sure the kids are socially integrated with others is an important developmental function and we worked hard to do that with our home schoolers.

However, what home schoolers learn is self reliance, self motivation, self confidence, a self identity based on their talents and interests, not on the opinion of others who have no more life experiences than they do. And, most importantly, they learn the ability to achieve as much as they want to, that your success is based on your effort... those things exist in the REAL world. Those things translate.

Most of public school life is crap. Your kids are better off without it. I know mine have been.

And, if you ever choose to reintegrate them into public school life, they'll by light-years ahead of their classmates in skill, understanding and maturity.

And this, by the way, is coming from a parent that was VERY skeptical of home schooling when we started the process almost eight years ago.Pete Bauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11906198705434157486noreply@blogger.com
